Meat facility officials warn of upcoming meat shortages in the United States.

According to USA Today and The Midwest Center for Investigative Reporting at least 4,400 workers have fallen ill at 80 meat plants, causing 28 to close for at least one day.

The US Department of  Agriculture told TIME Magazine the food supply chain is important.

According to USA Today chairman of Tyson Foods John H. Tyson bought a full page advertisement to tell everyone that the food industry is in trouble.

USA Today reported that Tyson said “millions of animals – chickens, pigs and cattle – will be depopulated because of the closure of our processing facilities.”

According to CNN Business some meat plant workers refuse to go to work, however, the president has signed an executive order telling the plants to stay open.

CNN Business reported that meat processing companies have been reducing costs for years which made the plants dangerous to work in even before the current pandemic began.
