Because of the world-wide pandemic, scientists are racing to find a vaccine for COVID-19 as soon as possible.
According to Time Magazine, an affordable vaccine needs to be found, and a plan must be created for everyone to get the vaccine.
Time Magazine reported that if they can discover a vaccine and most people get vaccinated then the risk of COVID-19 will go down.
According to the BBC News, most experts predict a vaccine is likely to appear in the next 12 to 18 months.
The BBC News reported Seattle scientists are conducting human trials of the COVID-19 vaccine. This is different because they are skipping the step of doing animal trials first.
Co-director of Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development at Baylor College of Medicine Dr. Peter Holtz told The New York Times, “We are trying to make a vaccine during the pandemic, which we have never done before.”
According to The New York Times, Novavax has found a way to create protective antibodies to prevent the COVID-19 virus. They are using a bacterial virus that only infects insects to trick the immune system into thinking it’s been attacked.
