President Donald Trump met on phone with many U.S. pro sports leaders last week, saying he was looking forward to the resumption “as soon as we can.”

According to CBS Sports, Donald Trump had a conference call with all of the major leagues and said, “They wanna get back, they gotta get back.”

Trump also told AP News, “I think it’s whenever we’re ready. As soon as we can, obviously.”

According to ESPN, Trump thought it would be sooner rather than later that pro sports resume.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said to ESPN, “I’m not anticipating that happening in this state.”

According to AP news, the leagues have created resumption plans but need clearance from health officials before they can resume.

The timetable of the resumption of pro sports depends on the path of Covid-19, which stirs uncertainty according to CBS.

Sources inside the NFL have told ESPN they hope to start on time in September while the NHL, NBA and MLB depend on when gatherings are allowed again.

CBS sports also reported that NBA players Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert were the first of many professional athletes that have contracted the coronavirus. This raises questions about when sports will resume and brings up the possibility of the corona virus spreading from athletes to fans, or vice versa.

As the Corona Virus is still spreading rapidly, the timetable for the resumption is still unknown. When the Corona Virus slows down, a more certain timetable will come out.
