Students from Wayzata High School were recognized for their talent through the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards,
announced on January 19th.
According to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards’ official website, there are 29 categories of art and writing.
Senior Isabella Hackley and senior Drew Wosje both won Gold Key Awards for design, with Hackley awarded two. Senior Shin-Tsz
Kuo won a Gold Key Award for photography and Junior Abubakar Robleh won a Gold Key for digital art.
Silver Key recipients this year include: Senior Isabella Hackley for design, Sophomore Andrea Hansen for design, Senior Shin-Tsz Kuo
for art portfolio and photography, Junior LeAnn Qie for digital art, Sophomore Aileen Sandoval for digital art, and Junior Mina Zhang
for digital art.
“It was really cool because I never thought of myself as a good artist. It was rewarding because I learned I shouldn’t be comparing myself,”
said Hansen about winning a Silver Key for her piece titled “A Lack of Education is Discrimination.”
Hansen has only recently pursued a passion for graphic design, while Hackley has been working in graphic design for years.
According to Hackley, she’s going to study graphic design in college. She plans to have paying customers for her art after finishing her
senior year of high school.
Hackley described Graphic Design Teacher LeaAnne Jasper as a key player in pushing her to submit art to the Scholastic Art Awards.
Hansen also said Jasper inspired her to submit her art, “Mrs. Jasper just really encouraged me throughout the whole class.”
